How powerful does a pump for a DIY float tank have to be?

For a home setup you don’t need a high powered filtration, but you should use either a magnetic drive pump or mechanical pump that can maintain roughly 20 gallons per minute (45-80 GPM for commercial setups). Generally 110v 1/8HP is enough to stir the water, (I’ve used as low as 3/32nd HP and as high as 2 HP). You should always use a GFCI breaker on a dedicated circuit
