Report Card for Das’ Super Thin Build

This is the first attempt to make use of the DIY Tank Report card to assess a build.

Das holz posted an initial design and then suggested repurposing a portable bathtub. This report card will assess the usability of the portable bathtub in an objective fashion.

Tank

  1. dimensions – 62 inches long, 23 inches high, 20 inches wide
  2. material – unknown but probably holds heat well.
  3. shuttering (how it opens and closes) – snap on lids which do NOT fully cover the top.

Heating and Temperature Control

  1. water heating system – no mention. Initial post suggested “radiant floor heating wire” with no mention of how to connect this to a temperature controller. And no mention of a company for such radiant floor heating wire.
  2. tank insulation from ground – no mention
  3. tank insulation from room temperature – no mention.

Pumping Water via the Spa Pack

pump/piping

  1. flow rate of pump – no mention
  2. gravity-fed or self-priming – no mention
  3. mag drive or not? – no mention

Sanitization via the Spa Pack

purification approaches were not discussed.

  1. mechanical
  2. chemical
  3. chlorine
  4. h202
  5. UV
  6. ozone
  7. carbon
  8. biguanide
  9. bromine
  10. ionic (zinc, copper, silver) – Hallelujah! Fluid float has been re-discovered! : r/FloatTank (reddit.com)

Assessment

The tank dimensions are quite tight. This tank has a headrest, meaning the person’s head is supposed to be OUT of the tank while in use. I know that with 10 inches of water this tank height is probably too low. But the author suggests only using 6 inches of water (with no practical report of this being doable). Furthermore, 62 inches long means it is only 5 feet long! I am 6 feet tall. This tank is only useable for gnomes!

Additional shuttering will need to be improvised because the provided snap-on lids do not cover the top.

The water heating system will need to penetrate the tank walls to initially heat the water as well as maintain water temperature.

The tank has 2 drain pipes already. It is not clear how one may marry a spa pack for pumping/filtering the water to the existing drain pipes.

The tank is rather portable because it can be folded.

This build is highly speculative with a number of things missing for it to be a complete and useable tank. I do not recommend the author proceed down this path.
